Description
Story.
One day I was watering my big planter and all of a sudden I saw a head pop out of the soil. Shocked, I stopped watering. Thank goodness the baby survived. It turns out that mama Jack Rabbit had built a nest in the planter. Oh no!!!!
Luckily I was able to get in touch with some wild life woman and she told me to leave them in the nest until they emerged. At that time, mom leaves them on their own and they need to forage and then return to the nest; and on and on. Problem was that the lip of the planter was too high for them to climb in and out. So we built a ramp for them out of plywood and rocks in burlap so they could walk in and out. We also built a makeshift overhead protector from the rain, sun and predators.
However, once the wildlife lady saw the situation she would take them because I am near a main street and they may have wandered and it would have been confusing for the wee things to be able to walk in and out on a plank of wood.
This is the day that wildlife lady came and took the four bunnies to her facility to grow until they were old enough to be released into the wild which should be any day now.
So adorable.
Update: Spoke to her yesterday and she said they were healthy and happy and were released in upstate New York where they had plenty of heather and food. (And I am sure the farmers in the area are jumping for joy....lol lol lol.)
